The following links will help you ensure that your business is properly licensed and, if needed, registered with the state.
Applying for a Business License
The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration provides the details on what type of permits and licenses you may need, depending on the type of business. Visit their website for more details.
If your business is operating in an unincorporated area, make sure you have the proper use permits from the county’s Planning Department. Visit their website for more details.
Encroachment and Transportation Permits
If you plan to make any renovations to your business that may temporarily enter the public road right-of-way, you will need to receive one or more permits from the Riverside County Transportation Department. Permit fee schedules and applications are available here.
Environmental Health Permits
Several types of businesses, including restaurants, body art shops, public pools, and mobile home parks, are required to obtain operation permits renewed every one to three years depending on the type of business. Other businesses that use underground storage tanks, septic systems or wells may also require permits. Please access Environmental Health’s website for more information.
Specialty business licenses and permits are needed for massage services, fortune telling services and sex-oriented businesses.
Specialty permits for the above referenced businesses must be obtained from the sheriff's department at (951) 955-1700.
